Many of us are fluent in a variety of specialized vocabularies and technical languages (scientific languages, literary terms, philosophical concepts, etc.) which may be unfamiliar to the general reader. Unless you are writing for an audience of specialists, either define your terms or use ordinary language.

Jargon: In his asynchronous interface with the Cyclops, Odysseus networked with his men in order to upgrade their chances of survival.

Revised sample: In his unequal encounter with the Cyclops, Odysseus strategized with his men in order to increase their chances of survival.
